Dance like no one's watching - Project 365

The rain was coming down in a steady, melodic drizzle.

Storms are a rare sight to see around here, and oh, how I love a good rain. I pulled a blanket around my shoulders and stepped outside with Savannah, and we huddled together, warm in our little cocoon.

But since she's 3, cuddling only lasts for so long, and she popped out and inched her way towards the edge, where the roof stopped and the sky began. At first she just put out a hand, tentatively, and then shrieked and pulled it back when the rain splashed and ran down her arm.

That's wet, Mama, she informed me.

She did it again. Her hand, and then a shoe. She stuck out her tongue to catch a drop, and her curly hair straightened into wet strands.

And then she was dancing in the rain.

Pure abandon. Such joy. Such freedom.

I wish I could dance like that.

We had a wonderful, simple Easter. Wonderful because of Jesus.

Wonderful, also, because our friends, who know that we have no family in the area and always take us under their wing, invited us over for a mid-afternoon lunch. Followed by an Easter Egg Hunt that lasted about 1 minute and 4 seconds. Those kids are fast.

Thank you, Sara, for hosting Project 365.

Happy Monday!

  3. Jackie,
The way you wrote this was so beautiful! I love your descriptive words.

I also love the innocent freedom that kids possess. If only we could all find our "inner child" and dance in the rain. :)

  8. One of these days I'd love to play in the rain with my kids. I don't know that I have much of a desire to dance in it - but I would like to stop being "the Mama" long enough to enjoy a good game of tag in it!

The pictures you took of Savannah dancing are fantastic. It always feels so good to be able to capture a moment in your heart AND with your camera, doesn't it?

Loved your post, as always! It makes me happy to see y'all taken care of by friends like this. :)

  11. LOVE being out in the rain. You'll usually find me sitting just under the eave watching it pour down.

The boys have inherited my love for it - I let them play in it with nary a word of caution.

  12. There is nothing more free than dancing in the rain! So why is it that it's the kids dancing their little hearts out? At least the Mamas are getting good at pictures in the rain! Their is lots of joy in that!

Glad you had a good Easter!
