Songs for my soul

I am really behind the times, technologically speaking. I do not have an ipod, or a blackberry, or any other fancy thing. I barely have a cell phone, and it's only one of those Go Phones, where you add minutes as you need them. It's fancy.

I am not even sure if the CD player in my car works.

But still, I am joining in with Missy at It's Almost Naptime to tell you what kind of music I've been listening to in my car lately. Or, in my house, as the case may be.

On Wednesday when I decided I couldn't wait any longer to tackle the many, huge, overflowing baskets of laundry, I popped in a mixed CD, a compilation of various songs from iTunes, and hoped that it would give me some kind of laundry-folding inspiration.

Here's a sampling of the songs that speak to me, in one way or another:

Can't help falling in love - Elvis

One Fine Day - Natalie Merchant

How He Loves - David Crowder Band (for the record, Savannah is IN. LOVE. with David Crowder. I think the attraction is the crazy hair and glasses, not sure. But she is like a little mini-stalker of his - she talks about meeting him, and knows he lives in Texas. Watch out, David).

When God Ran - Phillips Craig and Dean

Making Memories of us - Keith Urban

Untitled Hymn (Come to Jesus) - Chris Rice

The Way you look Tonight - Frank Sinatra

The Way I am - Ingrid Michaelson

I could go on...and on....and on....but that's enough for now.

And if you pinned me down under extreme duress and forced me to name my favorite song of all time (which, really, how can you pick just one?)....well, I would have to say it is this - His Eye is on the Sparrow. I can barely listen to this song with crying. I know He truly is watching over me.

Missy, thanks so much for hosting!

Oh! One other thing - I have a new bloggy friend, Mirinda, and she owns a fabulous store called October Belle Designs. She is an uber-talented artist, and she does custom canvas paintings - and she's giving one away at her site. Because Savannah's room is very sad-looking, and basically still has the baby-ish nursery theme going, I so want one of these to help dress it up. Go visit October Belle Designs and leave her a comment!

When God Ran is one of my favorite songs ever! And please, Sinatra? Mr. CPQ sang Sinatra to me at our wedding reception - You make me feel so young - makes me smile every time I hear it.

I like you do not own anything that is technologically savvy! I don't even have a CD player in my van (kind of dates my vehicle doesn't it!). My cell phone is a tracphone that I share w/ my husband (same concept as the gophone). I love the Chris Rice song "Come to Jesus" and another favorite of mine is "Sweetly Broken" by Jeremy Riddle.

So, you got a little Jesus mixed with Elvis. Nice.

I only own an ipod because my brother gave me his when he upgraded. I take advantage of his techno-junkie ways. But I am the only person in America who has a Blackberry and has turned off the internet access. I don't need to Twitter or check my email that often to justify paying $30 a month! So, I'm a little behind, too. Except for my nice shiny new laptop!

You're so funny!

And I'm with you on the Sinatra...if I'm not listening to Christian praise music, it's Sinatra and the like of him. LOVE music from the 40's.

And maybe it's David Crowder's heart for God that Savannah is so in love with. I'm gonna choose to believe that one. he he :-)

Savannah might have competition for Crowder, lol. ;) He is such an amazing musician!! Every time I listen to his music, I'm automatically in a better mood.

The Way You Look Tonight...I love that song.

It reminds me a little of one of my faves: Lady in Red.

Thanks for checking on me.

Hi!!!!

Ok - finally getting back to your question about the banner... It takes me WAY too long to make one. I'm thinking about an hour or two...depending on how long it takes me to decide on the ribbons, placement, paper, embellishments, etc.

It's the decision making part that I struggle with!

Are you as excited about Rachel getting Josiah as I am? I am sooooo thrilled!

Hey! Just found your blog and had to comment -- I was just telling my husband the other day how weird people would think I was if they could see all the different songs I have in my iTunes -- I'm really glad I'm not the only one whose musical tastes wander from Frank Sinatra to David Crowder :)

Love your blog!

So, I found your blog through Amy, who commented right before me.
I have to say, I love all of those songs. Every last one.
Elvis, Can't Help Falling in Love--one of my all time faves!
I would personally add Elvis' Little Less Conversation'--not really touching, just plain fun :)
AND...Trace Adkins, You're gonna Miss This. I can only listen to that so often, makes me cry :)
Adorable blog!!!

Hi Jackie! Thanks for the comment! I've missed you and your posts, but I completely understand ;) It's just not happening for me lately either. And yes, I have classes this semester, the schedule is a bit different from a typical college schedule so right now I have one class (a super easy one that only lasts 6 weeks) but will start a couple new ones soon and then two more after those get finished. It's going well. Sometimes I wish I'd finished back when I was young, but I also enjoy getting to do this for myself while in the midst of raising children. Keeps my mind sharp. Well, maybe ;)

Hope you are well.

Hey Jackie,

I see I'm not the only one who has been in a dee bloggie sleep! It took a weekend with Beth Moore to wake me up.

I hope all is well with you!

I think of you when I notice your maiden name attached to someone at our church. Always make me wonder if it's one of your Central Illinois relatives!
