On the cleaning warpath - and Project 365, Week 17

What I'd like to know is this; why do I have this huge compulsion to clean my house right before I go on a trip?

It never hits me at any other time, this weird need to have everything spotless. I'm usually ok if everything is just picked up. But give me a departure date and a plane ticket, and suddenly I can't scrub everything fast enough. And then? I'm not even around to enjoy it. I don't get it.

We're leaving this week for our short trip to Missouri, and I have been cleaning like a maniac all day today. And also planting a few flowers to try and brighten up our back yard.

Something about cleaning a lot tends to stress me out. I know it is a stress reliever for a lot of people, but I can't stand the thought that all of the hard work I just did is going to get messed up in a matter of minutes. And so I think I snapped a few times at poor Savannah, who would follow along behind me and, well, mess things up. Because she's 3 and she likes to play and she doesn't get why she should be banned from playing just because Mommy is a little off her rocker. I'm sorry, baby.

I wanted to post a few Project 365 pictures, since I completely missed last week.

Thanks to Sara for hosting!

I'll be back to post once again before I go. My 200th post is coming up (which sounds like such a low number to me, considering how long I've been blogging. Hmmm...must be the erratic and sparse blogging schedule I adhere to). Anyway, I think I want to do a little giveaway. But I'm going to make you work for it, because I need your input on something. So come by and help a sister out!

Happy Monday, y'all.

Totally fun pictures! That watermelon is mouth-watering!! I'd be interested to find our what Savannah picked up from the cooking show...that's so funny that it held her interest.

Gotta love Kohls clearence. I like snap dragons because they are so hard to kill. Hoping you'll do another full backyard shot sometime this summer...I know its incredible.

I LOVE coming home to a clean house! Something about walking in the front door and enjoying it for 1.3 seconds before all the suitcases and stuff get all piled everywhere.

And I'm a tad grouchy when I clean, too...

Cute pictures!! :)

I agree, that coming home to a clean house is nice! I do the same thing! the laundry is ridiculously out of control...but when we get ready for vacation, I can get it ALL done in a snap! Oh well...

Love the photos! Cute dress! {Emily does not have that one! ha ha!}

I always clean when I leave because I hate coming back to a cluttered dirty house.

I need to go on a trip. It's starting to get a little furry.....

It's true. We all do it. I think our mamas did that to us. My momma always said we do it because we don't want to come back home to a dirty house.

I guess she was right.

Cute dress from Kohl's.

Enjoy your trip.

Oh I so do the same thing - I get frantic and weird about cleaning before we go on a trip because I know I will be so discouraged if we come back to a messy house. So discouraged would actually be an understatement. I already tend to deal with a "let down" often when we return from a trip and get back to every day life. To come home to a mess adds to the crazy... :)

Looking forward to you 200th post! :) I'll give you some input.

I know exactly what you are talking about! I clean like crazy when we leave to go anywhere! It makes me crazy too, but I LOVE to come home to a clean, clean house!!! Y'all have fun on your trip! We are leaving in a week and a half for our vacation. I am so ready! Past ready!

i always want to leave w/a clean house in case some emergency arises and strangers/relatives/friends have to come in....i don't want them talking about my messy house!

my snapdragons have come back twice now...not as lovely as yours though.

have a wonderful trip...can't wait to see how you put us to work!

I like to have my house sparkly clean before I leave, because when I return home it is one less thing to worry about. For me it has a calming effect after traveling with 4 children! Home, Sweet, Clean Home!

So totally feel your pain on the getting ready to leave and clean, etc. I hope you have a wonderful visit, though.

Me thinks Savannah is dewicious.

Hey, my 200th post at JIMC is coming, too. Time flies when you're typing away...

I always clean my house before going out of town, even just for the weekend. I like coming home to a clean house, or somewhat clean. lol

I always have to clean before a trip because I hate coming home to a filthy house!

It totally makes sense to clean your house before going away, so you don't have to come home to a dirty house and extra work!

Nice pictures. Can't believe Savannah watched that whole show. She's so cute!

i am the SAME WAY. i think it's like i worry something will happen to me and i don't want anyone to come in my house after i'm "gone" and see my dirty laundry piled up and dust bunnies taking over the world!

So, I'm not alone in the clean before you leave thingy? I have to have the house spotless and the laundry completely caught up or it makes me crazy. I don't want to come home to a mess. Doing that would just erase all the good vacation feelings.

I feel the same way about leaving my house clean before I leave on a trip. Little Savanah is growing up so quickly. I remember when you were blogging about her potty training. Mary is now 2 1/2 and I am potty training her. She is in big girl pants today and is doing pretty good. I give her a little candy treat if she goes in the potty and it seems to be working really well. I hope you have safe and wonderful trip. Blessings, Elena

My husband is like that too. Wants everything perfect before he leaves. Better him than me. It is nice coming home to a clean house and not having 1000 things to do right when you walk in the door.

I'm excited to see whats up for your 200th. Mine is soon as well :-D

I hear ya sista! I am so like that!
Even down to not letting the kids play in their own space! CRAZY!
If it's nice I usually chase them to the yard!
I don't know what the big deal is! While we are gone everything gets dusty again...but there is something really Rewarding about coming home to a clean house!

i hear you, girl! i love coming home to a clean house too. unfortunately, i didn't take the time to do that this time (i'm out of town right now ;), so i'll have that to look forward to when i get home. ;)

I totally do that too. We're going to the beach on Friday, and I'm doing the same thing this week.

I'm planning on doing mucho work tomorrow while Avery is at preschool.

I love coming home from vacation to a clean house.

Um, yeah.

My hunch is that your mom cleaned before you went on trips. That's why I can't but HELP to clean before we go anywhere for any extended period of time.

That and a few horror stories of coming home to a neglected fridge - ew. I do clean out the food and make sure the trash is out. Thankfully the trips I've got coming up I won't have to worry about all that because Andy will still be here to hold down the homefront (much as I'd love for him to be with us).

I do the same thing before a trip, mainly because it's always such a restful feeling after a hectic trip to come home to a clean house!

I look forward to your 200th post.

I too am a cleaning hater, it totally stresses me out, however coming home from anywhere to a dirty house is even more stressful which is why I too do the madwoman cleaning thing before I leave. It is also why you ahd I both need to one day have a cleaning lady!

I spent ALL day yesterday cleaning. And then I lost it when my kids left the chips/salsa on the table and got crumbs and smudges on the freshly mopped kitchen floor.

It calms me when things are in order, but you're right...it's stressful when they don't stay that way.

I pray for extra grace to pass on to my messy brood. ;)
