I think my treadmill hates me

It's official. I am the biggest klutz in the world.

This morning I was on the treadmill, alternating between running and walking in the hopes that this interval training business will have the fat-blasting effects that it is purported to have. I had my computer propped up in front of me and was catching up on the latest Office episode.

One minute I was cringing at the pure awkwardness and watching as Jan's baby had her first photo shoot amidst a pile of vegetables. The next minute, with no warning, I was flying off the back of the treadmill and landing in a heap on the floor.

If you are keeping track, this is the second time this has happened to me in as many months. Klutz.

This time, it was my right knee instead of the left that took the brunt of it. It twisted as I tried to catch myself, and then I was flat on my back, writhing in pain. A second later I realized that Savannah was there and had witnessed the entire thing. And, oh, the concern on her face.

"Mama, you ok?" She rushed over.

"Wha' happen? Oh no! You fall down? Awwww, Mama!... it's ok." And she proceeded to rub my knee (the one that wasn't hurt, but it's the thought that counts), all the while sighing and murmuring sympathetically.

We have been trying to teach her the importance of prayer, and she is starting to get it. Throughout the day you can hear her stopping to pray for the various owies that she inflicts upon herself. Or when Pooh Bear has a tummyache. All perfectly good reasons to beseech the heavens for healing.

So she saw my throbbing knee as an excellent opportunity to lift up her baby voice in supplication to Jesus. She knelt down beside me and touched my leg, and then prayed with pure innocence and a slightly warped take on things.

Dear Jesus, thank you mommy's knee, and...ummm...help her to fall down. In Jesus Name...AMEN.

I think Jesus understood perfectly that I didn't need any help falling down - I was pretty good at doing that all by myself - but that I was going to need some help getting up off the floor.

So now I am laid up on the couch with a swollen knee that doesn't let me do much more than hobble around the house. I am frustrated because I can't exercise, probably for at least a week, and that is going to put a huge damper on my HFTH exercise plans. Darn treadmill. But I am not giving up. This is only a setback.

Ouch - hope your knee gets better fast! But that was such a sweet prayer - what an amazing girl!

I'm sorry that you are telling about hurting yourself and I am laughing. Bad me. I'm just laughing at your sweet little girl (and your way with words!). I bet you just cover her with little kisses all of the time for her sweetness! My son used to pray like that when he was much smaller. I wonder when that stopped - preteens? We have to work much harder on his thinking-always-of-God when he's a teen.

So, Jackie, you aren't giving up, are you? If you can't be on your legs, pump those arms while you are laying down! I haven't checked my blog today - are you taking me up on my challenge? Post a "before pic" of yourself and I'm "in" (the HFTH) and will post one of me. And believe me, mine will be SOOOOOO much worse than yours!

Your falling story is making me recall one of my falling stories that is worth telling about. I'll have to blog it soon. It's VERY funny.

Maybe that was a "help mommy to fall down MORE GRACEFULLY". :)

I hate it when I do klutzy stuff!

Oh no! That really must hurt! I've never completely fallen off of our treadmill, but I've slipped and come VERY close!
What a dear your Savannah is....she knew just who to call on for help.
Hope you feel better soon!
Oh, and I love The Office, too! :)

Your daughter is a cutie :)

Jackie! I am so sorry for this set back. Mostly I am sorry you are hurting. :( Wish I could come over and play with that sweetest of little girls, cook you some yummy food and help out around the house so you could just rest on that couch and heal. Of course if I were there three little boys would be terrorizing your house too - so that wouldn't really be much help at all. :)
I absolutely love that you have instilled the importance of prayer into Savannah. Precious!

I hope your knee is better soon! I've never done that...if I am going to fall down (and I do. A lot.) it always seems to be my ankles that I mangle. I loved your daughter's prayer...too precious!

Oh Jackie, I am so sorry! But your daugter's pray was precious. You must be very proud!

Happy healing...

I hope your knee will heal quickly. That sounds really painful.
I just love to listen to children's prayers. They are so precious.

After my hubby got home from that marathon, he's been sitting on the couch every night with an ice pack and says it really helps his knees (just fyi, in case it might help you, too).

I've flown off the end of a treadmill before. Not fun!!

I've always suspected that multitasking during the office is impossible. Now I know for sure. thanks for the warning.

Oh, Jackie, I'm so sorry! That just hurts "listening" to your story. Love, love, love, Savannah's prayer. She knew what she meant. And so did Jesus. Ya done good, Momma.

Ice and rest, my friend. Look at it this way--being on the couch means less trips to the kitchen.

Well...I was trying, anyway.

Ouch!

Her sweet response says a lot about her mommy :)

Those are my favorite kinds of prayers.

I'm so sorry, I really don't mean to laugh. (I once fall face first at a gas station. NOBODY prayed for me.) I'm laughing at the sweet thing that comforted you and got through the pride of feeling stupid. We all fall. Thankfully it didn't make Utube or AFV. Then I'd be laughing AT you.

I have only ever run on solid ground. I am sure if I took on a tread mill I would be in the same condition as you.

So awesome that your daughter is "getting it." There is nothing as sweet as the prayers of a child.

Oh, the mental picture I got of you flying off the treadmill! :)

So sweet to hear your daughter pray for you!! We were once driving through a horrible rain storm and I was sooo tense and the car was very quiet...all of a sudden I hear my then 6 year old daughter "DEAR JEEESUS, help my mom get through this rain" Out of the mouths of babes...precious!

Aww, how sweet! Sorry you fell, but at least you have a precious daughter and Office episodes to keep you company while you recover. :)

i've always laughed at the commercials that show that happening to someone. but now hearing it from you and really being true...sounds plain AWFUL. but the sweetness of your daughter and her prayer were just incredibly wonderful. ahh silver linings! hope you recoup fast.

Oh my! I hope you are okay! I have to admit I laughed when I read her sweet, sweet prayer, and then I read it to Joey...it was just too cute! Savannah's prayer shows what a good Mama she has teaching her to pray!

So sorry to hear about you hurting your knee. I hope it heals up quickly. Savannah's prayer was so cute!

hey sorry about your fall! What a sweet little girl you have!
If you want to laugh at somebody elses fall check out youtube's ladder blooper. It's an infomercial and the guy almost completely knocks himself yet continues to chant "it's really safe, continue to call"....as he slips into a coma!
He needed a little Savannah to pray for him:)!

OH Jackie, This post is funny! I have often wanted to somehow figure out how to make a shelf or something that I could fit my lap top on while on the treadmill. Now I think I will just put my ipod on and go! surfing and running, at the same time, doesn't sound to good for your health!

Hope you aren't too banged up!

Adorable post! I think you have a little healer on your hands. :)

So sorry that the treadmill is having issues but maybe now that it has knocked you on both knees and you are still persistent then it will give a break from here on out.

I'm sorry you hurt your knee! That totally stinks. Don't jump the gun and workout until it is 100% better -- or you're going to injure it worse. I know this from personal experience.

And, I feel your pain about the klutziness. I will not get on an elliptical machine in public because it requires WAY too much coordination and I'm so afraid I will go flying off the thing. :)

What a precious, precious scene! (The praying, not the falling. LOL)
I am so thankful for every time Jesus helps me up when I fall. And you know? Sometimes I think He helps me fall, too. Fall a bit softer, that is.

i hope you are recovering okay. poor thing.

Bless your heart. You are working so hard. Glad you're fine. And it is 'only a setback.'

Hmmm...are you sure we're not somehow related because I totally share the clutz gene.

Love a baby who prays on her own and even knows how to start with a praise!

Its nice to get a confirmation once in a while that the things you are teaching are sticking. And learning to pray has to among the most important.

I'm sorry you fell (it's happened to me too!) but that prayer was so sweet! Hope you're back up and running again soon!

Awww! I'm so sorry you fell...but thanks for sharing such a beautiful story! It gave me a smile that is still on my face:) Hope you are back to normal soon!

I'm so sorry to hear about your fall. I tend to be a little bit klutzy myself.

I am a big fan of Pilates. I teach it actually. I'm wondering do you have any Pilates DVD's? I bet you could do some of those exercises and not bother your knee, depending on if your back is sore.

I've only done that once, but I've had many close calls. Hope you feel better soon!
